Job Summary

The Laboratory for Atmospheric and Space Physics (LASP) is encouraging applications for a Strategic Communications Lead to join our team! This position provides professional marketing support to further LASP’s mission of delivering the future of space science. The main responsibilities include planning, developing, and coordinating strategic marketing, communication, and outreach activities designed to elevate LASP’s research profile, enhance awareness of LASP’s capabilities and research potential, highlight its fundamental capabilities and maturing technologies, and advance and achieve key institutional objectives and goals. The Marketing Specialist position reports to the LASP Head of Communications Management, supports the Technology and Business Development Manager, and assists the Deputy Director for Research Development and Communications as required.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be
  • Develop and initiate marketing engagement strategies and plans in collaboration with, and in support of, LASP’s Technology and Business Development Team.
  • Perform market research to qualify new business opportunities, including analysis of customer/sponsor research objectives, capabilities matching, and competitive/collaborative technology assessments.
  • Assist with the development of the LASP technology and business development strategy and make recommendations for strategic customer and partner engagements.
  • Assist with the development of market and customer intelligence by identifying and defining market opportunities and directions that align with LASP’s capabilities and interests.
  • Identify and foster potential partnerships that align with LASP’s capabilities and interests.
  • Establish and enhance the external awareness of LASP through marketing, public and professional engagement, and representation of LASP in appropriate professional forums and organizations.
  • Coordinate and manage event, conference, and tradeshow presence to include: recommending strategic portfolio of trade shows, developing marketing/messaging objectives and goals, providing resource and logistical support, and provisioning of marketing materials.
  • Lead internal marketing meetings and track progress towards reaching marketing goals.
  • Create and maintain the LASP's client satisfaction survey program.
  • Create and maintain LASP marketing database comprising of competitor and partner capabilities, past performance, business objectives, and operational viability.
  • Implement per the guidance of the Deputy Director of Research Development and Communications’ the strategic the federal relations message with regard to business opportunities.
  • As directed serve as liaison to CU Boulder on local, state, and federal government agencies for LASP marketing and business development initiatives and resourcing of requested information on LASP capabilities and projects.
  • Provide professional assistance and support to the Head of Communications Management in the planning, design, development, and management of strategic, and at times sensitive, communication projects and initiatives.
  • Collaborate in the development and dissemination of broadly-based strategic communications designed to inform the public of such issues as LASP's programs, accomplishments, and/or points of view on specified issues.
  • Build strategic customer presentations.
  • Oversee the development and maintenance of comprehensive contact databases (professional, scientific, engineering, operations, and business) of LASP personnel needed for marketing and business development subject matter expertise.

What We Can Offer

The salary range for this position is $75,000.00 - $85,000.00. We offer a generous retirement plan that includes 200% matching for the first 5% contributed with immediate vesting. Relocation assistance is available per institute guidelines.

What We Require
  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Five years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
What We Would Like You To Have
  • Master’s degree in marketing or communications.
  • Previous experience working in the aerospace/space industry, marketing, business development, and/or as a federal lobbyist.
