The Biology department at Swarthmore College is soliciting applications for a Research Assistant in the field of neuroethology under the supervision of Associate Prof. Eva-Maria Collins.

How the brain works is a key question in biology and medicine. Behavior is an accessible readout of brain function and can be used as a gateway to understand how the brain works. This limited time position is for a research project funded by the Pittsburgh Foundation aimed at connecting behavior to brain function using freshwater planarians. Using chemical and genetic perturbations, this project will study how the brain controls specific behaviors. The successful candidate will work closely with the PI, lab manager, and a postdoctoral fellow in the lab. The research assistant will be responsible for planarian husbandry, making of stock solutions and reagents, conducting quantitative behavioral experiments and various molecular biology and biochemistry experiments.

Required Qualifications:
We are looking for a highly motivated researcher with excellent communication skills and a BA/BS in biology, neuroscience, biochemistry, or closely related field. Experience working with planarians or other aquatic invertebrates is preferred but not required. Applicants with strong molecular biology skills and/or an interest in microscopy are especially encouraged to apply. The successful candidate will also work closely with undergraduate students at Swarthmore College. Therefore, demonstrated teamwork and a strong interest in mentoring undergraduate students is preferred.
To apply, candidates should submit their application materials, including a Cover letter, CV, and email addresses of three references through the Swarthmore College Job Portal.

This is a limited term position and is on an annual renewal basis, with a maximum duration of 2 years. This position offers a competitive benefits package and paid time off.
