Job Description

The College of Aviation (COA) at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University (ERAU)—Daytona Beach invites applications and nominations for the position of Assistant Professor (Non Tenure Track), Department of Aviation Maintenance Science. The College seeks a dynamic individual with significant practical and academic experience in the Aviation Maintenance Science (AMS) discipline to teach in the second largest department within the COA. This 9-month Assistant Professor appointment is at our campus in Daytona Beach, FL.

The COA has an FAA-approved Part 147 AMTS contained within the AMS degree program. This provides students a rigorous curriculum and excellent opportunities for career advancement. The AMS program at ERAU is taught by dedicated faculty who are collaborative, student-focused and intellectually curious. The department is looking for an individual to join our faculty and help accomplish ERAU’s strategic goals.

Reporting to the Department Chair of Aviation Maintenance Sciences, the faculty member will lecture, oversee laboratory instruction, collaborate with University faculty, and provide student–centric instruction. They will support their students through mentorship. Faculty in the department will be expected to embrace new teaching methods, support innovation, and – secondarily - conduct research and pursue grants. The successful candidate will embrace an active safety management system (SMS) within the department.

Qualifications

The successful candidate will / will have:
  • Earned a Master’s Degree from an accredited institution.
  • Possess a valid FAA Airframe and Powerplant Certificate.
  • Experience in aviation maintenance sciences: civil, military, corporate, general aviation, manufacturer, or airline.
  • Experience in an academic environment.
  • Experience in developing and maintaining channels of communication with professional groups and industry organizations.
  • Experience maintaining academic excellence with respect to teaching.
  • Mentor students regarding long term aviation and aerospace career development.
  • Develop innovative curriculum commensurate with the high standards of the department and University.
  • Experience in applied research and grant writing (strongly preferred).
  • FAA Flight ratings, unmanned aerial systems (UAS), urban air mobility, space technology experience (preferred).
