Job Description

The Heart of MO-Regional Professional Development Center has an opening for a Literacy Instruction & Intervention Improvement Consultant. This position will serve the HOM-RPDC Region 2 districts and others as needed or assigned. The individual selected for this position will provide support to educators in developing and implementing effective instructional strategies, assessments and/or activities related to improving reading performance for students who are struggling to learn to read. The individual selected for this position will collaborate with other initiatives and interagency work of the HOM-RPDC and DESE to provide support to identified districts and schools.

The individual selected for this position will provide professional development, technical assistance, and coaching training directly related to the Science of Reading. This includes the topics of literacy acquisition and intervention using the current state of scientific research. Training on dyslexia screening to meet state requirements will also be required. Focus will be on the five components of literacy instruction: phonemic awareness, phonics, vocabulary, fluency, and comprehension. Additionally, training will be provided to districts on data analysis to inform instructional practices, including accommodations and modifications for students. This position will also be trained and provide training on LETRS.

The individual selected for this position will report data and consultant activities monthly and serve as a mentor for new consultants as needed and will attend HOM-RPDC and State meetings/conferences as required in the DESE contract. There is also a requirement to report data and consultant activities monthly.

Salary

Salary commensurate with education and experience.

Salary: $50,000/ year (as per grant funding)

Grade: GGS-010

Minimum Qualifications

A Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 4 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary.

Preferred Qualifications

All applicants will be screened on the following preferred qualifications:

Experience and Education:
  • Experience with science of reading and associated instruction, intervention, and assessment practices.
  • Five years of classroom experience and elementary or secondary content-specific teaching certificate are required.
  • Experience or awareness with LETRS training
Knowledge and Skills:
  • Understanding of significant research in the field of literacy education and the ability to apply the findings to the improvement of instruction.
  • Growth mindset, interest in finding supports to motivate greater learning for students and teachers; enjoy learning
  • Ability to express complex ideas to a variety of audiences clearly and concisely both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to manage diverse activities and meet established deadlines.
  • Ability to establish and maintain rapport and effective working relationships with department staff and local school district personnel.
  • Ability to analyze complex educational problems and develop feasible solutions.
