Job Description

Summary

This position will assist in managing the day-to-day operations of MizzouRec's personal training program. Responsibilities include assisting in the development, management of a comprehensive fitness program; hire, train, supervise, coach, and evaluate 15+ student personal trainers to help clients reach mutually established goals. This position is responsible for delivering a positive fitness experience for members and clients and implementing procedures for timely customer service and communication.

Essential Functions:
  • Design, implement, and manage innovative personal training programs that responds to student/member/client needs and provide timely customer service and communication to potential and current clients.
  • Provide direct supervision and day-to-day management of personal trainers.
  • Plan, develop, and implement procedures for effective customer service, managing operational costs, achieve sales goals, and net income targets. Maintain inventory and appearance of personal training areas and associated equipment.
  • Instruct the ACE Certified Personal Training Course.
  • Involvement with duties and responsibilities of divisional and university special projects and events, programming, and work groups pertaining to the overall student experience.
Supervision Received

This position is supervised by the Assistant Director of Fitness & Wellness.

Supervision Exercised

This position has supervision of 15+ student certified Personal Trainers.

Salary

Salary commensurate with education and experience.

Salary Range: $13.27 - $22.73

Grade: GGS 006

Shift

Monday-Friday 8:00-5:00

This position may require evening and weekend hours supporting activities and programs within the department. Occasionally division and campus projects may require additional hours outside of your normal schedule.

Minimum Qualifications

A high school diploma or an equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 1 year of experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities can be acquired is necessary.

Preferred Qualifications

Must possess a current Personal Trainer certification with a nationally recognized organization; preferred organizations: American Council on Exercise (ACE), the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM), National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM), or the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) or other related organization. Along with CPR, AED, and First Aid certification.

A Bachelor's Degree required in Exercise Science, Kinesiology, Sports Management, Recreation, or related area. An equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary.

One to two years’ experience, including at least one-year of managerial experience with proven leadership ability in a personal training, fitness programming or in professional setting. Education in a related field maybe substituted for experience on a year for year basis.
