Job Summary

The Department of Counseling at Florida Gulf Coast University seeks an Assistant Professor for its Clinical Mental Health Counseling program and its Relationship and Family Counseling certificate program.

As an Assistant Professor, Counseling you will teach courses in the master’s degree programs; teach clinical mental health counseling specialization courses; teach relationship and family counseling courses; provide clinical supervision to practicum and internship students; advise and mentor counseling students; establish/continue a strong and independent program of research; provide service to the counseling profession at local, state, and/or national levels; and participate collaboratively in program, department, college, and university service and shared governance.

Job Description

Typical duties may include but are not limited to:
  • Teaches in the Counseling Department’s master’s degree programs
  • Participates in clinical teaching, supervision, and advising.
  • Expectations for scholarship will be those identified for Assistant Professor as described in FPED and College documents.
  • Service to School, College, University, and professional community is expected in the form of committees, recruitment and accreditation activities, etc.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Additional Job Description

Required Qualifications
  • Doctorate degree in Counseling or Counseling Education and Supervision from a regionally accredited institution or equivalent and a nationally accredited counseling program. ABD will be considered if degree is conferred by August 7, 2022. If successful candidate is ABD, appointment will be made at an Instructor level on a fixed contract.
  • Licensure as a Mental Health Counselor in Florida. Current clinical licensure in another state with eligibility to achieve Florida LMHC licensure within one (1) year of hire may be substituted.
Preferred Qualifications
  • A record of successful experience teaching/supervising in a graduate counseling program at the University level
  • A record of publication in counseling journals and evidence of strong research potential
  • A record of service to the counseling profession
  • At least three years of paid experience as a clinical mental health counselor
  • Ability to contribute to doctoral programming and mentorship of student research
  • Clinical supervisory experience and supervisor credential
  • Expertise related to counseling across the lifespan, including positive aging
  • Ability to contribute to our recruitment and retention of diverse student.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Strong computer skills using web-based applications and Microsoft Office
  • Commitment to the use of technology in distance learning & university teaching
  • Interest in collaborating both within and outside the University in the development and delivery of instruction resulting in improved student learning. Must value continued scholarship and service to the college and university
