Instructional Support Technician - Computer Security

Farmingdale State College (FSC) is the State University of New York's largest college of applied science and technology with an enrollment of approximately 10,000 students. The Department of Computer Security at Farmingdale State College (SUNY) invites applications for the position of Instructional Support Technician. Responsibilities include:

  • Working with faculty to schedule laboratory classes.
  • Setting up laboratory equipment and materials.
  • Aiding in setup of technical infrastructure for the department aligned with the faculty's requirements.
  • Utilizing programming languages to support department technology.
  • Overseeing ongoing laboratory projects alongside the faculty.
  • Communicating with vendors and preparing purchase requisitions.

Other responsibilities include maintaining an inventory, preparing technical budgets, and any related Department tasks as instructed by the Chair.

  • An earned Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Security, Cybersecurity, Computer Engineering, or a closely related field.
  • Familiarity with the Linux command line interface.
  • Willingness to learn new technologies.


  • Able to utilize programming languages such as Ghidra, Autopsy, Python or C and have experience supporting computer-based instructional laboratories.
  • Able to communicate effectively with all stakeholders including faculty, students, and industry representatives in a variety of settings.

This is a full-time UUP position.

  • For the first 10 working days, beginning Friday, April 8, 2022 and ending Thursday, April 21, 2022, UUP Farmingdale applications will be given priority.
  • Salary: $51,000/year, may increase commensurate with experience
