Leads, coordinates, writes and produces programs and content for Houston Public Media (HPM). Determines the production needs of programs to best achieve project and organizational objectives.
  1. Develops and produces media for various projects in accordance with PBS Editorial Standards.
  2. Oversees editorial process of new projects from pitch to final mix and digital presentation.
  3. Coordinates media distribution and promotion across all platforms.
  4. Conceives, develops and/or transforms program ideas and concepts into programs and/or promotional spots.
  5. Pitches, develops and produces stories for existing HPM programs.
  6. Contributes, as appropriate, to on-air and podcast fundraising activities.
  7. Performs other job-related duties as required.

Qualifications :

Bachelors and 5 years experience

Requires a thorough understanding of both theoretical and practical aspects of an analytical, technical or professional discipline; or the basic knowledge of more than one professional discipline. Knowledge of the discipline is normally obtained through a formal, directly job-related 4 year degree from a college or university or an equivalent in-depth specialized training program that is directly related to the type of work being performed. Requires a minimum of five (5) years of directly job-related experience.

Notes to Applicant: The Senior Newscast Producer for Houston Public Media, Houston's NPR station, will work with our anchors and reporters during the morning drive-time to produce high quality audio stories for radio newscasts. This is a collaborative daily news reporting and producing role with tight deadlines. The right person will be able to turn around on-air stories quickly and work closely with the executive producer to coordinate our daily news coverage. The ideal candidate will be comfortable writing and editing radio scripts, recording and cutting sound, and identifying key stories to follow throughout the day. You should have some familiarity with Adobe Audition or other sound editing software and experience using audio recording equipment. You should also be comfortable writing stories for our website, HoustonPublicMedia.org, when news breaks in the early morning hours. The right person should have strong writing and reporting skills and a nose for hard news. You should be ready to cover important stories for local, statewide, and sometimes national public media audiences. Spanish language familiarity a plus.
