The Athletics Department invites applications for a Director of Athletic Performance . The Director develops, administers and supervises weight-training programs for all student-athletes, except for those in the sport of football. This position develops individualized outcomes for each student-athlete and modifies programs on a continuous basis based on progress to outcomes. The Director communicates progress to coaches and provides guidance to coaches for conditioning activities outside the weight room. The Director must also develop modified weight training programs for injured student-athletes and works closely with the Athletic Training staff to monitor those injured student-athletes. This is all done to condition and strengthen our athletes in order to make them the most competitive on the field. The Director must develop a vision and program based on weight training theory that most closely matches the desired outcomes of the department.

The Director develops, implements and monitors the weight room budget. Each year, they must inventory weight room equipment and make decisions on most needed equipment purchases each year. This is done based on a core philosophy of weight training and the machines and equipment that best meet those.

The Director supervises one full-time employee, two (2) graduate assistants and multiple student interns. This position will be required to hire, supervise, evaluate, and discipline, if necessary. The Director generally supervises the operation of the weight room. Develops rules and guidelines for the weight room, and expectations of student-athletes while in the room.

Athletic Department employees and those University employees outside the Athletic Department with NCAA rules compliance responsibilities are subject at all times to NCAA Bylaws 10.1 and 11.1 regarding ethical conduct and the responsibility to positively contribute to a campus culture of NCAA rules compliance. Failure to conduct oneself as such will result in disciplinary or corrective action up to and including immediate discharge.

Position Details
  • Position is full-time, 1.0 FTE, MUS Contract and includes a comprehensive and competitive benefits package including Insurance package, mandatory retirement plan, partial tuition waiver, and wellness program.
  • Salary for this position is commensurate with qualifications.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in related field. Master’s degree preferred.
  • Three to five (3-5) years’ experience in weight training and conditioning at the collegiate level
  • CPR/AED and CSCS or CSCCA Certification
  • Supervisory skills and ability to manage budgets
  • Ability to communicate with a wide variety of audiences
  • Ability to effectively motivate a wide variety of students and experience levels
  • Knowledge of prevailing weight training theories, and ability to choose the best one to meet program needs and experience level of student-athletes
  • Ability to design programs that achieve success and adhere to the core theory
  • Ability to evaluate progress of student-athletes and alter weight training as needed
  • Ability to maintain a safe environment to avoid injuries

  • Master’s Degree in a related field
