Position Summary:
Research Scientist I
Supports the Drug Discovery Working Group in the Institute for Modeling Collaboration and Innovation with their goal of developing novel antifungals to mitigate fungal diseases of Idaho crops. This researcher will undergo a thorough bioinformatics analysis of genome sequence data from specific fungal pathogens to identify biological processes and proteins as novel targets for the development of antifungals. Serves as an independent researcher, or a collaborator on a multi-scholar research initiative. May have lead responsibility for discrete components of a larger project under the general direction of a senior or principal researcher.

Research Scientist II
Supports the Drug Discovery Working Group in the Institute for Modeling Collaboration and Innovation with their goal of developing novel antifungals to mitigate fungal diseases of Idaho crops. This researcher will undergo a thorough bioinformatics analysis of specific fungal pathogens to identify biological processes and proteins as novel targets for the development of antifungals. Designs and manages all aspects of a research portfolio complimentary to that of other research scientists or research faculty. Often maintains active research collaborations external to the university.



Minimum Qualifications:
Research Scientist I
  • Doctoral degree in Bioinformatics or related field



Research Scientist II
  • Ph. D in Bioinformatics or related field


Research Scientist I
  • Three years of research experience related to the domain of this position



Research Scientist II
  • Five years of research experience beyond receipt of doctoral degree
  • Demonstrated record of research achievement
  • Participation in the development and submission of sponsored project proposals




Preferred Qualifications:
Research Scientist I
  • Demonstrating ability to work independently and with an interdisciplinary team.
  • Record of 3 or more lead-author publications in peer reviewed journals in a relevant field.
  • Record of writing proposals and acquiring externally funded grants.
  • Experience with structural biology.
  • Wet lab experience in microbiology, molecular biology and/or biochemistry.




Research Scientist II
  • Demonstrating ability to work independently and with an interdisciplinary team.
  • Record of 10 or more lead-author publications in peer reviewed journals in a relevant field.
  • Experience serving as PI or Co-PI on extramurally funded research.
  • Record of writing proposals and acquiring externally funded grants.
  • Experience with structural biology.
  • Wet lab experience in microbiology, molecular biology and/or biochemistry.
