Visiting Assistant Professor of Environmental Humanities

Wofford College invites applications for a visiting assistant professor of environmental humanities, broadly defined, for the Environmental Studies Program for the 2022-23 academic year. This may transition into a permanent tenure-track assistant professorship in 2023-24.

Undergraduate teaching is the priority for Wofford faculty. The person selected would teach three courses in the fall and spring semesters. In addition to upper-level courses focusing on subjects of the visiting professor’s preference, scheduled courses would include at least one section of LIBA 101 (first-year seminar, specific topic proposed by the instructor), one section of ENVS 202 (Introduction to Environmental Humanities), and one section of ENVS 347 (Environmental Storytelling), a seminar for juniors intended to equip them to propose a humanities-based senior capstone project. The visiting professor would also help advise and guide seniors as they planned and completed humanities-related senior capstone projects. Along with their teaching duties, they would be encouraged to engage with students outside of the classroom, to continue to do scholarly or creative work, and to potentially work with Wofford programs on campus or in the wider community. The candidate would have the opportunity to spend time at the nearby Goodall Center for Environmental Studies, taking part in our long-term ecological reflection work there.

The position requires an MFA, Ph.D. (or ABD) or equivalent in a field appropriate to the position.
