Organizational Unit Overview
The Department of Health Services and Information Management at East Carolina University is seeking applications for a twelve month, full-time, fixed-term faculty position at the rank of Clinical Associate Professor or Clinical Professor in the area of health care administration and/or health informatics.
Faculty member responsibilities include teaching graduate and undergraduate courses, mentoring and advising graduate students in research projects and/or theses, serving on and participating in departmental and college partnerships, and other service participation at the university, community, and professional levels.
The department offers Bachelor of Science degrees in Health Services Management and Health Information Management, and a Master of Science in Health Informatics and Information Management. The department offers graduate certificates in Health Care Administration, Health Care Management (MBA), Health Information Management, and Health Informatics.
The Department of Health Services and Information Management is part of the College of Allied Health Sciences which houses nine departments with programs at the undergraduate, masters, and doctoral levels. Attached to the College is the medical library which provides a librarian dedicated to supporting allied health faculty and students. All classrooms are technology-enhanced (e.g. SMART devices, video capture).
The College of Allied Health Sciences is within the Division of Health Sciences and has a strong working relationship with the ECU Brody School of Medicine, the College of Nursing, the School of Dental Medicine, and the East Carolina Heart Institute offering many opportunities for collaboration in teaching and research. East Carolina University is also an integral part of the Vidant Medical Center, the regional medical center that serves 29 counties. Vidant Medical Center is a 900+ bed, level-1 trauma center which offers a myriad collaborative opportunities.
East Carolina University, with an enrollment of 29,000, is located in Greenville, North Carolina (pop. 88,000) in Pitt County (pop. 170,000). On the Atlantic coastal plains, the area has mild winters and is 90 miles from the beautiful Crystal Coast and the capital city of Raleigh. It is within driving distance to Charlotte, Washington DC, Myrtle Beach, and the Smokey Mountains.
Academic rank and salary are commensurate with academic credentials and qualifications.
Job Duties
Faculty member responsibilities include teaching graduate and undergraduate courses, mentoring and advising graduate students in research projects and/or theses, serving on and participating in departmental and college partnerships, and other service participation at the university, community, and professional levels.
Minimum Education/Experience
The candidate must have an earned doctorate from an appropriately accredited institution in hand by time of appointment in health informatics, biomedical informatics, clinical informatics, health information systems, or a related field (e.g., health services management, health administration, public health), and possess the communication skills necessary for effective teaching and service.
Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education
Teaching experience in both graduate and undergraduate courses typically found in a health informatics and administration curriculum with emphasis on: project management, information security and privacy, health informatics, and financial management. Experience with online and distance education is preferred.
