The Ohio State University seeks qualified candidates for an Assistant Professor of Professional Practice in Agricultural Systems Management (ASM) position starting on or after Aug. 15, 2022. The position is 100% instruction and will provide oversight to and deliver instruction within the ASM undergraduate program. Ability to teach a wide variety of courses within the ASM curriculum will be viewed favorably. The candidate would have opportunities to engage with multiple academic units/centers/institutes such as the Department of Agricultural Communication, Education, and Leadership; Sustainability Institute; and Michael V. Drake Institute for Teaching and Learning.

This position will be 100% teaching as a professional practice track (non-tenure accruing), 9-month appointment.

Specific Expectations and Responsibilities

The successful candidate will teach up to four undergraduate ASM courses per semester to students enrolled in the College of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences (CFAES) along with non-CFAES students that may enroll in ASM courses. ASM courses may include, but are not limited to, agricultural construction estimating and scheduling, precision and digital agriculture, agricultural water management, controlled environment production, precision livestock production, food processing, materials handling, machinery management, and ASM capstone. The specific courses will be determined by the qualifications and experience of the candidate to be hired. The candidate will be expected to collaborate and interact with interdisciplinary faculty, programs, and trade and professional organizations. The candidate will also be responsible for advising student organizations (e.g., ASM Student Club), advising undergraduate students, assisting in development of Study Abroad opportunities, and providing service to the Department, College, University, community, and profession.

Required Qualifications

Minimum qualifications include a PhD (or soon to be awarded) in agricultural systems management, biological and agricultural engineering, mechanical engineering, or closely related field. The candidate should have skills in agricultural science and technology, data management and analytics, engineering technologies, building science, natural resource management, and/or computer aided design.

Preferred Qualifications

Demonstrated ability to teach, recruit, and advise undergraduate students and mentor student organizations and competition teams. Preferred candidates will have production agriculture, food processing, agricultural facility construction, controlled environment production, or similar industry experience, and hold PE licensure or be PE eligible.
