Job Description:
Provides leadership for the Office of Student Affairs with primary management responsibilities in the areas of 1) medical student career advising/ mentoring program 2) medical student services and office operations, career advising programming, maintenance of medical student rosters, and 3) student professional development through oversight of career events.
Works directly with students to implement career advising initiatives M1 through M4. This position will be responsible for ensuring students are having a positive experience at COMLS, assisting and providing one-on-one support to students as well as administration and faculty. The assistant director will be responsible for promoting career advising to UTCOMLS students M1-M4 as well as the faculty of the COMLS. Career advising is essential with the LCME accreditation and student satisfaction.
Minimum Qualifications:
•Master’s degree
•Previous experience in student affairs, career advising services, and coordination of student orientation and major events and transition
Preferred Qualifications:
•Experience designing and implementing career advising resources, including coursework through Blackboard, websites, and other media.
•Competency in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Internet Explorer, and Desktop publishing software.
•Ability to work collaboratively with other staff
•Ability to maintain confidentiality and to be sensitive to the needs and concerns of students, faculty, and staff, including a commitment to diversity and cultural sensitivity, is required.
•Effective verbal and written communication skills and exemplary attitude to provide excellent student-centered service and to interact in a professional, courteous manner always with diverse populations of students, faculty, staff, and the public.
•Must be well organized and able to work independently, possessing a high degree of initiative and motivation
•Experience implementing large events 700 + people, with several moving pieces and logistics (i.e., commencement)
