Job Description

The University of Missouri Division of Animal Sciences seeks to expand its expertise in avian genetic engineering research by hiring a talented Assistant, Associate or Full Professor. The incumbent will collaborate closely with the faculty in the Division of Animal Sciences of the College of Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources ( https://animalsciences.missouri.edu/ ). This position is also critical to the MU-USDA ARS Livestock Genetic Engineering Program and NextGen Precision Health initiative in the University of Missouri System ( https://precisionhealth.umsystem.edu/ ). We expect the incumbent to bring a synergistic effect by collaborating with our existing livestock genome editing researchers in the Division of Animal Sciences (MU Livestock Engineering Team https://cafnrfaculty.missouri.edu/muleteam/ ). Responsibilities: We seek a dynamic individual who will lead an extramurally funded research program, train doctoral students and postdoctoral fellows, provide academic service on campus, and contribute to undergraduate and/or graduate education. The desired focus of the research is on avian genetic engineering research to enhance the genetic value of avian species, availability of avian models, and our understanding of genes relevant to avian growth, development and disease resistance. The individual is expected to develop and apply novel genome editing technologies to benefit avian production. The successful candidate will be expected to develop or possess a robust, collaborative, externally funded research program.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications: A Ph.D., D.V.M., or DVM/PhD degree with postdoctoral training or equivalent training in genetic engineering, animal sciences, poultry sciences, or a related discipline.

Candidate will be Evaluated on: A competitive candidate will possess excellent written and verbal communication skills to facilitate research and teaching. Applicants at the Associate or Full Professor level must have an established extramurally funded research program and with a strong record of peer-reviewed publications and national/international recognition. Exceptional new investigators with experience in avian genome editing will also be considered and are encouraged to apply.

The candidate should have the ability to communicate well in a research and educational setting; and evidence of past research collaborations or a willingness to work in related research areas. Individuals with interest in utilizing designed avian models for basic and translational research are specifically sought and encouraged to apply.
