Position Summary:

This is a tenure-track faculty position within the Department of Medicine, Division of Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism, at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health. The incumbent will function as a physician-scientist, engaging in active collaborative research, providing clinical patient care for patients with Endocrine related diseases at UW Health approved locations, and teaching medical students, residents and fellows within the context of their clinical practice. Opportunities for didactic teaching and participation in other educational activities in the division may also be available.

The Division of Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism at UW-Madison includes 19 faculty, nine Advanced Practice Providers, and five Fellows. The division's faculty lead cutting-edge NIH-funded research programs in diabetes, obesity, metabolic bone disease, and endocrine-related cancers that complement existing UW strengths in stem cell biology and regenerative medicine, type 1 and type 2 diabetes, islet transplantation, cancer biology, nutrition and public health. The division is currently undergoing a significant expansion in research related to diabetes and obesity to build on our strong tradition of interdisciplinary translational research in metabolism across campus.

Collaboration is an integral part of our approach. Focusing on team science, the division's faculty collaborate with some of the world's top scientists here at UW including experts in stem cell biology and regenerative medicine, aging, type 1 and type 2 diabetes, islet transplantation, cancer biology, nutrition, and public health. The outstanding research environment at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, which is home to some of the top basic science departments in the nation and a vibrant scientific community, is a unique asset of our program. In addition, our researchers have a close relationship with the Institute for Clinical and Translational Research (ICTR), which provides support for all aspects of clinical/translational research including intramural funding opportunities.

Principal Duties:

This is a tenure track position and will involve research, teaching and patient care as expected of a tenured faculty member. Research time will be devoted to the general field of diabetes, endocrinology and metabolism. Clinical responsibilities will include seeing patients with Endocrine related diseases in the outpatient clinic at UW Health approved locations. An equitable role in the teaching activities of the Endocrinology Division will be expected along with attendance at Division Grand Rounds, fellow conferences, and precepting residents/fellows in clinics and while on the inpatient service.

University and community service will be expected as appropriate.

Degree and Area of Specialization:

MD (Medical Doctor), or DO (Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine)

MD must be certified or eligible for certification by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) in Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism; DO must be certified or eligible for certification by the American Osteopathic Board of Internal Medicine (AOBIM).

Minimum Years and Type of Relevant Work Experience:

Completed accredited Endocrinology fellowship training.

The ideal candidate will have a strong record of publications in diabetes, obesity, metabolism, metabolomics, and/or regenerative medicine to complement institutional strengths in type 1 and type 2 diabetes, transplant, islet and stem cell biology.

Formal experience in teaching, both didactic and in the clinical setting, of Endocrinology to learners enrolled in a Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) or American Osteopathic Association Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation (AOACOCA) accredited medical school and/or Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) accredited program.

Candidates for Associate/Full Professor must meet criteria for rank per UW-Madison guidelines.

License or Certificate:

Eligible for State of Wisconsin medical license
