Position Summary:

The successful candidate will join a world-class institution that encourages, values and supports interdisciplinary basic, clinic and population health research, and attracts scholars and students from around the world. This position would be part of Neuro ICU team which includes physicians from neurosurgery, neurology and emergency medicine.

Principal Duties:

The successful candidate would be a member of the Neuro ICU team at University of Wisconsin Hospital. Clinical responsibilities include serving as the 24/7 onsite attending physician in the Neuro ICU during the assigned weeks. Attending duties are shared among the Neuro ICU physicians and will depend upon the number of faculty but is expected to be 1:5. Other clinical activities will include surgery, outpatient clinics and attending service on neurosurgery inpatient and consult services at University of Wisconsin Hospitals, the VA Hospital, community hospitals and clinics.

Academic responsibilities include teaching and mentoring medical students, residents and fellows as well as teaching continuing education programs for physicians and the public.

The successful candidate will also participate in professional, public, and university service appropriate to the rank and in administrative and committee work to support the clinical and scholarly missions of the School of Medicine and Public Health and UW Health. An essential part of these duties will be working in a collegial relationship with other faculty members.

For appointment on the CHS Track: Duties will either be approximately 80% clinical, 10% research, and 10% teaching or approximately 80% clinical, 20% research, depending on the successful candidate.

Degree and Area of Specialization:

MD, DO or MD/PhD required.

Minimum Years and Type of Relevant Work Experience:

-Clinical and research interest in neuro-critical care required.
-Board eligible or board certified by time of appointment

-Candidates for Associate Professor (CHS) or Professor (CHS) must meet criteria for appointment at rank per UW School of Medicine and Public Health guidelines for appointment and promotion on the CHS track.

License or Certificate:

-Must be Board eligible or board certified in Neurological Surgery.
-Must be eligible for Wisconsin medical license and be licensed in Wisconsin by time of appointment.

Additional Information:

The Department of Neurological Surgery is a department of over 20 faculty and 13 advanced practice providers located at 2 main sites: University of Wisconsin Hospitals and Clinics and 20 S. Park/Meriter Hospital. This is a diverse group of neurosurgeons who provide primary, secondary, and tertiary inpatient and outpatient care for Wisconsin and northern Illinois.
