UW-Madison is seeking a diverse set of faculty candidates who will deepen our campus' interdisciplinary research strength in key areas of current and future research promise, as well as faculty candidates who will approach their work in a manner that advances our commitment to research excellence.

The Department of Anthropology is known for exceptionally strong teaching and a high value placed on empirical field research. We have active graduate programs in cultural, archaeological, and biological anthropology. Among our sixteen faculty members, several have joint appointments in other departments and units.

The International Studies Major is an interdisciplinary undergraduate instructional unit that focuses on the study of global issues, grounded in three core ideas:
A relational, interactional, contextually rooted understanding of global forces and dynamics
The mutual constitution of the global and the local
The importance of a broad, interdisciplinary approach to global issues.

Both the Department of Anthropology and the International Studies Major faculty welcome a range of theoretical orientations and research questions, and we strive to increase diversity and inclusion in the department and in our fields of study as a whole.

The appointee is expected to be a full member of both the Department of Anthropology and the International Studies Major community. She, he or they will be expected to build a research, teaching, and service record commensurate with the tenure expectations and standards of the rank, the Department of Anthropology, and the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

Madison is situated among four lakes, and the university stretches along the southern shore of the largest.
