Job Summary:

The Department of English at the University of Wisconsin-Madison invites applications for three tenure-track or tenured positions in Global Black Literatures at the Assistant Professor Associate Professor, or Professor levels. The department is particularly interested in scholars with expertise in African American, African, Caribbean, Afro-Latinx, and Black diasporic anglophone literatures. Applications from scholars working in or across a range of historical periods, including scholarship that considers race and racialization across a wide span from the medieval to the contemporary. We are interested in scholars working on Global Black Literatures in any genres, cultural formations, and theoretical orientations.

The successful candidates will join a vibrant group of departmental colleagues with expertise in the advertised field, and a community of faculty, staff, and students who embody the values of diversity, inclusion, and anti-racism.

The teaching load is four courses per academic year at the undergraduate and graduate level in black literary studies and/or African Diaspora. Advising and mentoring of graduate and undergraduate students is required as well as conducting scholarly research in the area(s) of specialization leading to publication at the national and/or international level. Service and outreach at the departmental, university and professional levels will be required as appropriate for faculty rank.

PhD in English or similar is required by appointment start date.

Qualifications:

Minimum of three years outstanding teaching experience at the college/university level. Candidates for tenured appointment must show evidence of excellence in teaching and publication in areas that correspond with the candidate's specialty.
