Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly motivated individual to join our informatics team in furthering our research and outreach activities. The University of Wisconsin-Madison School of Medicine and Public Health (SMPH) is embarking on an exciting mission of establishing state of the art computational, data and informatics infrastructure for supporting cutting edge biomedical research and innovation to care. We are seeking a DevOps Engineer to join our Informatics team and help us design, develop, and deploy highly complex research computing and computational science workflows that support research. Under the direction of the Senior Director of Scientific Computing in the SMPH, the incumbent will build and work in the azure cloud environment and data enclave for research studies such as the Neighborhoods Study ( https://grantome.com/grant/NIH/R01-AG070883-01 ) in the Center for Health Disparities Research (CHDR) program led by Dr. Amy Kind. CHDR focuses on understanding and eliminating health disparities and improving outcomes for vulnerable populations. We conduct multidisciplinary projects in clinical/health systems interventions, medical and public records assessment, and claims data analysis. The incumbent will develop, implement, and use azure cloud-based data enclave, computational methods for data integration, and data pipelining tools for facilitating the research projects.

Education:

Preferred
Bachelor's Degree
Preferred focus: computer science, informatics, information systems or related field

Qualifications:

Required:
-Minimum of 1 year of professional experience automating deployment of cloud services using Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools (e.g., Terraform, Chef, Puppet, Ansible, Salt)
-Minimum of 1 year professional experience managing resources in a Public Cloud (e.g., Azure, AWS, Google Cloud Platform)
-Experience with modern programming languages like Python, Go, Java or Ruby
-Professional experience designing, architecting, or developing IT systems or services
-Excellent oral and written communication skills

Preferred:
-Experience with research and healthcare environment
-Experience with Agile or Scrum methodology and tools
-Experience with Git version control system
-Experience with Continuous Integration/Continuous Delivery (CICD) pipelines
-Experience with container and container orchestration solutions like Docker and Kubernetes
-Experience with regulatory or security regulations, controls and benchmarks like HIPAA, NIST 800-53 and CIS

Strong people and communication skills are required. The ideal candidate is curious, self-motivated and able to work with minimal supervision.
