Stephens College invites applications for the Sara Jane Johnson Endowed Scholar in Ethnic Studies. This is an endowed, three-year, full-time, non-tenure track Program Chair position in the Women’s College that includes support for research and development. The successful candidate for this position will develop and teach undergraduate courses in Ethnic Studies-- the interdisciplinary study of race, ethnicity, class, gender, and sexuality across a wide range of social groups, and will also have mentoring and service responsibilities. Faculty rank for this position is open and will be based on the candidate's qualifications and experience.

 

The successful candidate will:

  • Maintain a full-time teaching load (4 courses each semester)
  • Develop new courses in Ethnic Studies
  • Create a dynamic learning environment that values instructor/student interaction
  • Adapt teaching pedagogy to the abilities of a diverse range of student learners
  • Maintain active research, scholarship and/or creative professional practice in the field
  • Establish collegial and collaborative partnerships with program chairs and faculty in all disciplines
  • Mentor and support students
  • Serve on faculty and campus committees

 

Qualifications:

  • A Ph.D. in Ethnic Studies, Black Studies, Gender & Sexuality Studies, or other relevant disciplines.
  • Evidence of effective teaching at the college level
  • A demonstrated commitment to student-centered, outcomes-based women’s
  • A demonstrated commitment to innovative instructional strategies and
  • Evidence of successful research and scholarly publication and/or creative activities.
