The UNCP Department of History is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Social Studies Education Instructor to teach social studies education courses as part of the Educator Preparation Program for middle grades and high school social studies. Responsibilities would include: instructor of record, evaluating assignments and progress on program rubrics, preparing future teachers to understand their professional responsibilities, training teacher candidates in inquiry-based teaching and learning as aligned to the North Carolina 2021 Social Studies Standards, and possible supervision of field experience. The instructor would also be responsible for reporting student performance data, including dispositions assessment, to the Social Studies Education Program Coordinator.

Applicants should also submit either a middle/secondary unit plan or a syllabus for an undergraduate social studies methods course. SSE methods courses can be taught in the evenings, so qualified current middle/secondary Social Studies teachers are encouraged to apply.

Minimum Training and Experience Requirements:  Applicants must have at least a Master’s Degree in Education or a similar field with a focus in Social Studies Education. All degrees must come from accredited institutions. Applicants must have at least five years of teaching experience in public middle or high school social studies. Strong consideration will be afforded to candidates who also exhibit a demonstrated record of professional experience and success in undergraduate teaching. For positions that may include online teaching, candidates are expected to demonstrate an ability to successfully structure and implement a distance-education based course.  Prior experience teaching in higher ed preferred.
