POSITION DETAILS
The Academic Program Specialist will report to the Chair of the English department in the Division of Humanities and the Arts at The City College of New York. In addition to the CUNY title overview duties, tasks include but are not limited to:
- Support of students and faculty with the day-to-day operations of the programs; communication with prospective students
- Scout and recruit potential graduate applicants through open houses, conferences, readings and other venues
- Work with program directors on registration and advising, including with new student orientations and pre-registration advisement
- Liaison between students and faculty; handling of all communication needs, including the drafting and dissemination of press releases, traditional and social media, departmental updates and important deadlines or developments; promotion of departmental programs, events, student, faculty and alumni achievements
- Participate in the establishment of a strong brand across all English department programs; maintenance of departmental website, including update of content, blogging, and working with technical support
- Establish and maintain an alumni network, including promoting alumni achievements and hosting alumni networking events
- Support departmental fundraising efforts through communications, drafting proposals, research and coordination with the Development and Research Administration Offices
- Work with faculty and directors to manage the department’s graduate programs
- Provide general aid to department chair and office administrator as needed
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's Degree and four years' relevant experience required.
Preferred Qualifications:
- BA, MA or MFA in Creative Writing
- Excellent writing skills; publication record preferred
- Excellent computer skills, including experience in creating online posters, maintaining and updating websites, Excel
- Excellent social media outreach skills
- Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills
CUNY TITLE OVERVIEW
Participates in the daily coordination of academic and administrative activities of a College's specialized academic program under management direction.
- Supports program development, student service delivery, outcome evaluation and instructor/student recruitment, enrollment, and retention.
- Recommends, implements and evaluates strategies to expand program offerings
- Prepares analytical and statistical reports for management
- Develops and maintains relationships with various College offices to improve student and faculty services
- Serves as resource expert regarding program policies and procedures
- Oversees office recordkeeping; manages updates of program web and print materials
- May supervise office operations and/or department budget
- Performs related duties as assigned.
