POSITION SUMMARY: 

As part of a technical assistance project under PRM-funded Resettlement & Placement activities, HIAS seeks a Safety & Security Analyst to operationalize an interagency data tracking system, as well as developing and distributing a monthly security bulletin. The preferred candidate has a demonstrated interest in security analysis and professional/academic experience in humanitarian contexts, analysis or similar. They work as part of a small team delivering best practices in safety and security risk management in support of Resettlement Agencies (RA) across the United States. 

The salary range is $70,000.00-75,000.00 and based in New York, New York.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 

  • Manages an incident reporting platform across Resettlement Agencies (RA) and their affiliates. 

  • Conducts research, gathers information from RAs, compiles and analyzes data, produces a weekly dashboard and other specialized reports as requested. 

  • Succinctly briefs leadership on security matters that may impact RAs. 

  • Closely monitors and analyzes national security and political trends. 

  • Abides by the MOU/MOA agreed upon by RAs. 

  • Develops and manages a security bulletin. 

  • Helps conduct threat and risk analyses in support of RAs. 

  • Supports the Safety & Security Advisor and RAs to organize security related trainings. 

  • Assists the Safety & Security Advisor with administrative duties. 

QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS: 

  • Undergraduate degree in Development Studies, Humanitarian Studies, International Affairs/Politics, Security, Terrorism or other relevant field; similar degree at graduate level with academic training in building databases and conducting analysis preferred. 

  • 3-5 years of experience working in the humanitarian space in the United States. 

  • Fluency in English required; fluency in Spanish and/or French strongly preferred. 

  • Excellent communication and written and oral research, analysis and briefing skills. 

  • Experience in humanitarian field operations and emergency response a plus. 

  • Background in safety and security management; experience with risk assessment, incident reporting, incident mapping, information collation and analysis and security technology. 

  • Experience with data management tools, including data visualization software highly desired. 

  • Excellent writing, research, and organizational ability. 

  • Full proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Word, Excel and PowerPoint required. 

  • Ability to liaise with HIAS and RA staff utilizing a collaborative approach. 

  • Strong interest in analysis; detail-oriented. 

  • Experience working with a humanitarian organization desired; candidates without humanitarian experience will be required to complete training on the history of humanitarianism and the humanitarian principles. 

  • Proven ability to work within a multi-cultural, multi-ethnic team.
