Job Description
The Department of Health Systems and Implementation Science at Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine seeks exceptional candidates for an Open Rank Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor on the Teaching and Research track. This is a tenure-eligible, independent investigator faculty position dedicated to Virginia Tech’s teaching and research missions.
Successful candidates will be expected to lead an extramurally funded research program focused on improving population health, health systems science, implementation science, human factors, or related field. We are particularly interested in individuals with basic and applied research around translating evidence into policy and practice. We are committed to excellence and innovation in research and education, underpinned by a focus on equity, societal impact, and building partnerships in the communities we serve.
Areas of research interest could include dissemination and implementation science, human systems integration, human-centered design, developing and testing dissemination or implementation strategies, observational studies of real-world dissemination or implementation, hybrid implementation-effectiveness trials, and research on barriers and/or facilitators to disseminate and implement evidence-based practices. Particularly desired fields of application include obesity, diabetes, cancer care, or addiction across the lifespan.
Responsibilities include teaching courses in health systems science, implementation science, or relevant field of expertise to medical and graduate students. Other responsibilities include advising students (Ph.D., Masters, Undergraduate), supervising dissertations or thesis work, maintaining a program of scholarship and scholarly activities, and engaging in professional service. The appointment will be made at a rank (assistant, associate, or full professor) and salary commensurate with experience. The position requires a history of research publications and a demonstrable, strong commitment to education and scholarship

Required Qualifications
(1) a doctorate in health sciences or a closely related field.;
(2) strong program of scholarly research with recent publications in elite health science journals;
(3) instructional capabilities at the undergraduate, master's, and doctoral levels.
Preferred Qualifications
(1) Experience as a mentor to junior faculty and doctoral students.
(2) Complimentary research interests with those of our current faculty.
(3) Demonstrated teaching effectiveness at the master's and doctoral levels.
(4) Research interest in the application areas of obesity, diabetes, cancer care, or addiction across the lifespan.
(5) A minimum of three years’ postdoctoral or equivalent research experience is preferred.
