About the Opportunity:
Individuals are sought to teach graduate courses (on-ground and/or hybrid) in bioinformatics for the Roux Maine Bioinformatics Professional Science Master's (PSM) Program depending upon the programs' needs and enrollment. This position is located at the Northeastern University Portland Campus. The Roux Maine Professional Master of Science (PSM) in Bioinformatics degree program is designed to allow students to pursue advanced training and excel in bioinformatics while simultaneously developing highly valued business skills. Building on the Northeastern Boston PSM, the Roux Maine Bioinformatics degree is characterized by instruction in advanced bioinformatics, business courses, and a graduate co-op work experience. The degree prepares students for entry and mid-level roles in bioinformatics. The degree is deeply rooted in experiential learning that is closely linked to professional applications in the work force.

Start dates: Sept, January, or May. Positions are available contingent upon enrollment and departmental needs. Stipend rates per course.

Responsibilities:
Instructional areas included, but are not limited to, bioinformatics programming, bioinformatics computational methods, statistics for bioinformatics, geonomics, proteomics, and chemoinformatics. Responsibilities include the following: review and learning of key teaching points within existing instructor guides, and a willingness to support high-quality teaching and standards through: preparation of lectures based on course materials provided; effective facilitation of rich, respectful debates and discussions in an in-person or online class; creating and administering exams; timely review and grading of assignments with appropriate coaching and feedback to the students; consistent connection with students and their performance; holding office hours; adherence to Northeastern's policies. Part-time instructors work under the direction of the Director with support from a Faculty Lead and will hold office hours as appropriate.

Qualifications:
PhD in biology, molecular biology, pharmacology, biotechnology, chemistry, biomedical engineering or corresponding field or a closely related field and/or a Master's degree plus at least five years of work experience in the topic areas of the course. Significant experience programming in R and/or Python. Prior experience in a diverse higher education institution preferred.


Preferred Qualifications:

Preference for candidates with a PhD in a sciences field or demonstrated relevant experience in industry as a bioinformatician, data scientist, or computational biologist.

Demonstration of teaching, coaching, and/or training is required, with a history of successful teaching (online/on ground) at the graduate level is strongly preferred.
