As the Library’s chief academic and administrative officer, the University Librarian is responsible to the Provost and Vice-President Academic for providing visionary leadership in creating a learner-centred library environment, directing the Library’s contribution to the teaching and research goals of TRU’s programs and ensuring the TRU community has access to quality resources, services, technologies and professionals in alignment with the mission and vision of TRU.


The successful candidate will be an empathetic, collegial leader who brings a strong commitment to academic librarianship, possesses academic leadership and administrative experience, and have demonstrable knowledge of trends and current issues in academic libraries. The University Librarian will require exceptional leadership and communication skills in order to thrive in a culture that embraces collegiality, consultation and transparency. The University Librarian will be inclusive with highly developed interpersonal skills, and will have respect for and be a champion of equity, diversity and inclusion. The University Librarian will be able to operate strategically, and have a record of professional excellence, scholarly engagement and service to the profession. A strong appreciation for the intellectual and operational diversity across the spectrum of disciplines within TRU is essential. An MLIS/MLS from an American Library Association accredited program (or equivalent) is required.
