Carnegie Mellon University (CMU) welcomes applications for a teaching-track faculty position with the Integrated Innovation Institute (III). This teaching track faculty appointment will start in fall 2022 at CMU's Pittsburgh campus.

At the III, we breakdown the silos that impede innovation. We believe that by uniting the disciplines of engineering, design, and business, we can build impactful solutions that create value for real people.

We seek candidates who share our passion for innovation, along with a background in engineering to train the next generation of innovators, design thinkers, disruptors, and world changers within our Master of Integrated Innovation for Products & Services (MIIPS) degree.

The successful candidate will be a valued member of our faculty and will have the ability to teach courses across varying aspects of human centered design engineering. Candidates with interest and ability to teach courses in cyber-physical systems, physical prototyping and design for manufacturing and assembly are preferred. This role will also team teach the Integrated Product Development Capstone course each spring.  In this industry sponsored course, students provide their sponsor with a refined product/service concept that the company might want to bring to market. Along with a background in teaching, a successful candidate will have industry experience related to developing and launching new products, have an understanding of team dynamics and bring new insights to our "engineering, design, business" identity.

In the spirit of interdisciplinary education, this role could support teaching needs within other programs at the III or other departments at CMU that are viewed as mutually beneficial for the candidate and departments.

Teaching track faculty are responsible for teaching a standard course load of 72 units (typically, split into two 36 unit semesters) each academic year. All teaching assignments will be determined by the III Director based on the overall needs for the department. Along with teaching assignments, there will be standard faculty service requirements to the III. The III provides faculty with professional development opportunities, along with standard technology resources to support teaching needs.

This teaching track appointment runs 9 months (September to May) and will be reviewed for reappointment after 3 years as described in the College of Engineering faculty review process.
