PRESIDENT

Emporia, Kansas

The Kansas Board of Regents and the Emporia State University community invite nominations and applications for the position of President. The successful candidate will succeed Allison Garrett, who served the university with distinction from 2015 to 2021. The Board of Regents has charged the presidential search committee to identify a leader with proven skills in innovation, entrepreneurship, fiscal management, relationship building, diversity, equity and inclusion, creative problem solving, and implementation of a strategic plan.

Emporia State University (ESU) leads the state and region in business, education, forensic science, and health care (specifically nursing). ESU is the only public institution in Kansas named a “College of Distinction” as a result of the real-world, high-impact learning that ensures students are career ready. A commitment to providing expanded access to high-quality education which expands economic opportunity and strengthens the economy is at the core of the ESU mission.

The ESU campus, online, and hybrid-served student population of 2,948 undergraduate and 2,667 graduate students is guided by an accomplished faculty, staff, and administrative team numbering 738. The university budget is $96.8 million. A vibrant living and learning environment invites students statewide, nationally, and globally to be a part of the campus community and its close-knit university-city relationship.

EXPECTATIONS

Emporia State University seeks an energetic, results-driven, innovative, and collaborative President. The candidate must demonstrate an enthusiastic, sincere commitment to the mission of the university with the knowledge that ESU embraces four core values: excellence, respect, responsibility, and service.

The President must support inclusive strategic planning and work to advance the university's planning directions in "The Adaptive University", while giving thoughtful attention to its support of the Kansas Board of Regents’ plan "Building a Future”, focused on Kansas families, businesses, and economic prosperity. The university expects a staunch advocate and a committed presence who will be an informed, inspirational, and congenial servant leader, both on campus and as the face of the university in Emporia and the region.
