Assistant Teaching Professor of African Studies

The African Studies Program at The Pennsylvania State University invites applications for a full-time Assistant Teaching Professor position, to start Fall 2022. This position is a one-year, renewable, non-tenure track appointment. Responsibilities include primarily teaching introductory, intermediate, and advanced undergraduate courses in African Studies. The possibility of teaching a graduate course is contingent on the acceptance of the Graduate School. The ideal candidate will be able to teach a range of courses, including, contemporary Africa, African politics, conflicts in Africa, filmography of Africa. A successful candidate must have a record of being able to teach both in person and online as well as demonstrate a commitment to building an inclusive, equitable, and diverse campus community.

Education and Experience:

A Ph.D. and relevant research and experience in the areas of cultural studies, literature, political science, and African studies is required by prior to the effective date of hire. Candidates will be evaluated according to the following criteria: promise and experience as a teacher and a commitment to working with a diverse student body.
