A full-time, professional academic staff position is available in Learning and Technology Services, Enterprise Software Systems (ESS) subunit, beginning May 23, 2022. The working title for this assignment is Database Administrator with an official title of Database Administrator II.  This is a renewable assignment position.  The salary will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.

This position functions under general direction of the Enterprise Software Systems Manager.  This position works with a team supporting the campus student information system.  The campus currently uses PeopleSoft Campus Solutions utilizing Oracle databases on Windows.

Primary responsibilities are automating and monitoring various database tasks including database refreshes, as well as monitoring and assisting with troubleshooting the database servers when any errors occur.  In the absence of the lead DBA, this position is responsible for handling database issues.  Additional responsibilities for this position include alternating with the lead database admin applying Oracle security patches as well and Windows Server operating system updates.

The responsibilities of this position include interactions outside of campus with staff at UW System, other UW campuses, Oracle, and professional organizations.

There is opportunity for partial remote work after onboarding.


  • A bachelor’s or associates degree in a technical discipline; OR the equivalent combination of education, technical training, or work experience.
  • A good technical background and interest in expanding that knowledge
  • Working knowledge of Database Management Systems (such as Oracle, SQL Server)
  • Experience installing and patching software
  • Advanced troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to occasionally work irregular off-hours for system updates or major issues
  • MUST be work-authorized in the United States.

THE UNIT: The unit of Learning & Technology Services consists of 50 staff members in the subunits of Enterprise Software Systems, Technical Support Services, Client Support Services, and Learning Spaces. Learning & Technology Services also coordinates very closely with the Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning unit.
