The Department of Ophthalmology is seeking a Senior Research Data Analyst to work with the Principal Investigator Dr. Cindy Cai in her research projects. Dr. Cai’s research program is focused on using informatics techniques to better understand the social determinants of health that are impactful in diabetic retinopathy. This individual will be responsible for managing the relational database of ~75K diabetic patients, managing data integrity, data cleaning, extracting the cohorts for analysis, and perform statistical analyses on the cohorts. Will also explore the use of other large databases, including insurance claims, for other projects.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities:
- Work with the Core for Clinical Research Data Acquisition (CCDA) liaison to understand the extracted data from the electronic health record
- Maintain the integrity of the relational databases
- Organize and clean data for subsequent analysis
- Apply data filters and queries to produce flat tables for analysis
- Apply statistical tests on the extracted data to answer research questions
- Explore the use of other databases (including insurance claims)
- Assist with preparation of presentations and manuscripts for publication
- Perform other duties as required
Minimum Qualifications (Mandatory):
- Master's Degree in related discipline
- Typically require PhD
- 1 year related experience
- Require highly specialized advanced knowledge, education and/or training in a specialized field of study to conduct research
- Demonstrated ability on significant graduate project or additional doctoral education may substitute for experience to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula*
* JHU Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job.
** Applicants who do not meet the posted requirements but are completing their final academic semester/quarter will be considered eligible for employment and may be asked to provide additional information confirming their academic completion date.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Prior experience with database management and big data analytics preferred
Technical Qualifications or Specialized Certifications:
- Competency with computer programming language: Python
- Competency with database management language: SQL
- Competency with statistical languages: Stata, SAS, or R
