Overview Consistent with Loyola University Chicago’s commitment to a transformative Jesuit education that is delivered through an anti-oppressive lens, the Faculty Center for lgnatian Pedagogy (FCIP) seeks diverse candidates for a Faculty Development Specialist. This person will specialize in anti-oppressive pedagogies (e.g., anti-racist pedagogies, feminist pedagogies, inclusive pedagogies), which focuses on access, inclusion, success, and care for under-represented students and instructors, as well as an approach to dismantling systems of oppression. As a member and thought partner within the collaborative team at FCIP, this specialist will work in partnership with FCIP colleagues and other units across campus (Institute for Racial Justice, Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, etc.) to design, deliver and assess programs related to anti-oppressive pedagogy. Reporting to FCIP’s co-director, the successful candidate will demonstrate experience, skills and intentions to contribute to improving instructors’ knowledge, awareness and use of anti-oppressive pedagogical strategies and tactics. Serving all three of Loyola’s campuses, this work will be done remotely and in-person.  
Essential Duties
  • Design and facilitate programs and workshops about how to use anti-oppressive pedagogy in course design and class facilitation across course modalities, drawing on the literature about anti-oppressive pedagogy
  • Create faculty learning communities that provide instructors a space to develop and refine anti-racist pedagogies
  • Design programs and workshops aimed at faculty inclusion, belonging, and well-being
  • Serve as a resource to the university community on how to integrate anti-oppressive pedagogies into their teaching and work
  • Curate and design resources (annotated bibliographies, instructional videos, materials for FCIP’s website) about anti-oppressive pedagogies
  • Partner with FCIP and other university partners to coordinate and deliver initiatives related to anti-oppressive pedagogies (e.g., Institute for Racial Justice; Center for Faculty Excellence; Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion)
  • Implement comprehensive assessment plan (including needs assessments and evaluation of programs related to anti-oppressive pedagogies) and make responsive adjustments to initiatives as necessary
  • Contribute to the literature on anti-oppressive pedagogies and faculty development by presenting at conferences (e.g., Association of Jesuit Colleges & Universities, Professional and Organizational Development Network in Higher Education) or publishing on the scholarship of teaching and learning
  • Take initiative to integrate anti-oppressive principles and tactics into work within FCIP and around the University
  • Support other FCIP programs and initiatives as needed
