JOB SUMMARY:

The Director of IT Operations serves as the principal assistant to and primary representative of the Chief Information Officer (CIO) and maintains a highly visible leadership role that establishes and enhances partnerships with internal and external constituencies. He/she will provide advice and assistance to the CIO on matters pertaining to the division’s multifaceted IT business and strategic activities, and will oversee a variety of initiatives, programs, and projects. The incumbent also will provide strategic leadership and operational oversight to the IT and Data Governance of the University.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Acts for the Chief Information Officer (CIO) in his/her absence, including the coordination of administrative duties.
  • Oversees the day-to-day operational, administrative, and financial functions of the division for the CIO.
  • Provides direction, guidance, and training for IT staff.
  • Develops, maintains, and oversees the IT Portfolio for the university.
  • Proactively identifies emerging technologies to support functional operations that will advance the university’s mission, maximizing sustainability, efficiencies, translating and integrating their business objectives into the the supporting technical architecture.
  • Sets the mission and vision of the IT division to foster a customer-centric oriented culture and mindset driven by continual service improvement techniques.
  • Build a multi-year roadmap and key performance indicators that are well understood and anticipate emerging needs.
  • Foster a culture of trusted partnership, service, and continuous improvement.
  • Build a deep bench of team leadership and technical talent to deliver results and support future growth and mentor the team to their full potential .
  • Responsible for developing and administering the IT budget, contract management, and security risk management.
  • Provides oversight for IT and Data Governance for the university developing a technology roadmap for IT services and ensure organizational strategic alignment of the roadmap.
  • Works closely with divisional department directors and staff to enhance their efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Integrates IT policies and procedures into Board-approved, University documents.
  • Develops initiatives, seminars, and workshops for university employees.
  • Conducts research and development efforts on behalf of the CIO; prepares written summaries, recommendations, and evaluations in this regard.
  • Participates in various standing and ad hoc committees for the division, and creates and maintains related written records, as designated.
  • Maintains current knowledge of developments and studies of higher education and information technology.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications Required Experience and Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field plus ten (10) years of relevant work experience in IT operations, administration, and fiscal affairs.
  • Demonstrated experience overseeing and managing university-wide and divisional IT-related contracts, Master Service Level Agreements (MSLAs), Enterprise Term License Agreements (ETLAs), and Statements of Work (SOWs). Initiate action and compliance with payments and renewals. Maintain a working relationship with vendors to provide proposals for IT products and services for internal customers. Liaison with Legal and Finance to optimize contract, performance, relationship, and risk management, and accounting principles, and regulations, as applied to State of Ohio institutions.
  • Demonstrated experience with institutional policies and procedures, regulations, and the environment in which they operate.
  • Demonstrate ability in directing and integrating business and finance operational programs; and demonstrated ability to develop and implement effective fiscal policies and financial controls,
  • Ability to created and illustrate complex financial reports, comparisons, impacts, and projections.
  • Strong and oral written communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office software (Excel, PowerPoint, and Word)
  • Strong leadership and management skills; detail and results oriented.
  • Highly self-motivated and customer service oriented.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field plus five (5) years of relevant work experiences in IT operations, administration, and fiscal affairs.
  • Experience working in a higher education environment.
