Wichita State University Libraries seeks a collaborative,
student-centered librarian for its Assistant Professor and
Coordinator of Collection Strategies and Development position. This
position is a critical library leadership position supporting the
University’s research, teaching, and service missions by
coordinating strategies and providing oversight for the
development, management, and evaluation of the University
Libraries’ general physical and digital collections. In
consultation with others, the coordinator determines budget
allocations and oversees expenditures for the approximately $2.5
million acquisitions budget. The position is responsible for
strategic collections planning, coordinating collection development
policies, developing and building partnerships, engaging in vendor
negotiations, and managing collections projects including
deselection activities. The incumbent closely collaborates with
Acquisitions, Electronic Resources, Metadata, and Public Services
units. The incumbent also may orient/train newly hired subject
liaison librarians, and serve as a liaison for assigned subjects
when needed. This position reports to the Dean of University
Libraries and will represent the Libraries’ collection development
and management interests within and outside the University.
Required Qualifications: Graduate degree in
library science, information science, or equivalent from an ALA
accredited program; minimum three years increasingly responsible
professional library experience with collection development and
managing collection budgets in an academic or research library or
equivalent. The successful candidate will have demonstrated ability
to manage complex budgets; plan, coordinate, and manage projects
and priorities in a rapidly changing environment; effectively
collaborate, respect, and build partnerships with faculty, staff,
and other stakeholders in a culturally diverse, service–oriented
community; and work independently within the framework of an
organization’s policies and goals. Successful candidates will have
knowledge of techniques used for collection analysis and assessment
of print and electronic resources; knowledge of current and
trending practices and business models used for scholarly
communication, especially open access models; functional knowledge
of contract and license negotiations; demonstrated excellence in
interpersonal, organizational, problem-solving, time management,
and communication skills; strong service orientation; ability to
anticipate and support the University’s values and needs; and the
ability to meet the criteria for tenure and promotion.
