Job Summary/Basic Function:
Wheaton College seeks a Visiting Professor of Practice in Design (one-year appointment), who will contribute to a new, interdisciplinary Design Program launching in the fall of 2022. The visiting faculty member will teach three courses per semester, namely; Graphic Design I & II, Digital Tools for Art & Design (an Adobe Suite literacy course), Design Methodologies, and two sections of 2D Design.
The Design Program at Wheaton supports students interested in creative fields with a balanced curriculum of design theory and practice. More information about the program is available here .
The new program is driven by liberal arts values with a focus on human experience, collaboration, ethical problem-solving, interdisciplinarity, and a commitment to social justice – all part of the Wheaton ethos. We seek a candidate with a demonstrated record of design pedagogy and practice with awareness of matters of racial, social, and environmental justice.
Candidates are asked to submit:
1. A Letter of Application
2. A Curriculum Vitae
3. A Statement of Teaching Philosophy with included statement of commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
4. A Portfolio of work in Design, assembled into a multi-page PDF of less than 25MB in size, with captioned images.

Minimum Qualifications:
An MFA in graphic design, visual communication, or closely related field, or equivalent experience in Design. Relevant college-level teaching experience (or a combination of applicable academic and professional experience). Ideal candidates will exhibit the capacity to advise and teach undergraduate students and will contribute to the workings of the Design Program and the College.
Preferred Qualifications:
