The Executive Director provides leadership and direction in the administration of aid programs at three university campuses. The position directs and supervises two campus Directors and acts as Director for the central/main campus Office of Financial Aid and Scholarship Programs. The Director has direct oversight of 42 main campus employees as well as indirect oversight and accountability of the financial aid administered through the directors of financial aid at the other campuses.

The Executive Director manages and coordinates all aspects of comprehensive student financial assistance programs by securing and delivering funds to students, by obtaining and maintaining institutional participation in financial assistance programs, and by working with the Vice President of Enrollment Management to develop strategic plans and programs that best use the university’s funds as well as state and federal programs.

The Executive Director develops and implements policies, processes, and technology enhancements that ensure best and efficient use and delivery of resources available. Employing best practices in customer service and compliance, the Director will continuously evaluate and improve the operations and processes within the office to ensure operations are flowing as seamlessly as possible. Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree required/Master’s preferred.
  • 5-8 years minimum of progressive experience in financial aid.
  • Prior supervisory experience required, experience managing a large and diverse staff preferred.
Job Specific Qualifications
  • In depth knowledge of state and federal financial aid compliance and regulations.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and presentation skills with the ability to lead, influence and inspire colleagues and cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to assimilate new information rapidly and assess any impact on the university. Ability to think logically and to analyze and solve problems.
  • Experience with and ability to collaborate and coordinate in a multi campus and multi academic calendar environment.
  • An ability to understand the importance of financial aid in recruitment and retention in order to achieve the strategic goals of the university.
  • Must be able to work well with all levels of employees, be flexible in nature, have sound judgement with an open and collaborative style that encourages teamwork and cooperation beyond the immediate team to the broader organization.
  • Must have a passion for excellent customer service and student success.
  • Must demonstrate a commitment to ongoing professional development.
Responsibilities
Direct and oversee awarding and distribution of more than $600 million in federal, state, and institutional financial aid to undergraduate, graduate, and professional students across multiple academic calendars in accordance with all applicable laws and regulations. Develop policies that govern the financial aid operations of all campuses.

Lead, manage, and mentor staff by setting goals, guidelines, and expectations while allowing for skilled autonomy in individual roles. Facilitate training, support, and professional development that will generate an effective and efficient environment that benefits team members, the SU community, and the students and families that the team serves. Engage regularly with staff to ensure excellent service to students and campus partners and impeccable compliance with applicable regulations to maximize the positive impact of the University’s resources.

Work closely with Vice President on the modeling and optimization of institutional financial aid to produce the desired results for undergraduate academic quality, student diversity, and net tuition revenue. Ensure that institutional aid maximizes the strategic impact of available funds and furthers university goals for student success.

Responsible for ensuring compliance with federal, state, and institutional regulations and policies governing student financial assistance. Monitor and maintain institutional compliance with all financial aid programs, interpreting and providing technical guidance to the university on current, federal, state, and institutional policies and practices, and updating the University on new guidelines.

Employing best practices in customer service and compliance, the Director will foster transparent, efficient processes and services that support student success and will continuously evaluate and improve the operations and processes within the office to ensure operations are flowing as seamlessly as possible. Oversee the technical operations of financial aid services, including the student information system (currently PeopleSoft) along with other utilized or available technology such as imaging systems, chat bots, query tools, and CRMs. Physical Requirements
