The Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences in the College of Veterinary Medicine (CVM) at Iowa State University (ISU), located in Ames, Iowa, invites applications for a full-time, clinical or tenure track faculty position as an Equine Emergency Clinician.  The position is flexible and can be tailored to the candidates interests and qualifications. The qualifications, documented experience, and interests of the selected candidate will determine appointment rank.

The person in this position will be responsible for receiving and treating emergency cases admitted after regular business hours and will provide approximately 40% emergency coverage. This position is well suited for clinicians interested in emergency and routine surgeries (ACVS), clinicians interested in emergency medicine and surgery (ACVECC), or an internist (ACVIM) interested in emergency medicine.  The candidate’s clinical duties will involve instruction of house officers (residents, interns), assessing and treating medical emergencies, performing (ACVS, ACVECC) or transferring (ACVIM) after-hour emergency surgeries, and educating veterinary students.  Approximately 25% of this position can be dedicated to elective day-time cases (ACVIM, ACVS) and/or surgeries (ACVS), if desired; alternatively, if a tenure-track position is desired, a research component will be required.  The remainder of responsibilities (approximately 35%) will be dedicated to the participation in the surgical education curriculum.  The percentage effort associated with these combined activities will be determined by mutual agreement between the candidate and the Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences.

The selected candidate will be committed to the delivery of exceptional patient care, share an enthusiastic dedication to education and will contribute to the enhancement of the Lloyd Veterinary Medical Center (LVMC). The successful candidate will also have a collegial, collaborative attitude and willingness to participate in all levels of technician, student, and house officer education. The candidate will be highly self-motivated, innovative, and will possess evidence of excellent communication skills and experience working with a diverse population. Furthermore, the candidate will demonstrate professional maturity with a leadership style that contributes to a positive culture and have a compassionate and empathetic nature towards the clients and patients of the LVMC. All employees are expected to exhibit and convey good citizenship within the program, the department, college, university activities, collegial interactions, and maintain the highest standards of integrity and ethical behavior.  Additionally, agreed upon time-off will be provided for candidates preparing for board certification examination.
