The School of Education at Mount St. Joseph University invites applications for a full-time (100%) (12-month), Center Director for The Center for Reading Science Director. The position will begin in the summer of 2022. The successful candidate will have a strong background in The Science of Reading. The position will be responsible for providing leadership and support for the newly created Center. Duties:

The Center Director will be expected to lead all aspects of The Center for Reading Science. The Director will serve under the direction of the Assistant Dean of Reading Science.

Responsibilities include:
  • Communicating with educators and stakeholders
  • Develop, coordinate and assist in providing professional development opportunities to Center audiences
  • Support implementation and expansion of Project Ready! preschool project and curriculum
  • Coordinating opportunities for the Stronger Together: Advancing Reading Science in Higher Education initiative
  • Maintaining and disseminating Resources for implementing the Science of Reading PreK-12th Grade
  • Supporting the research and program evaluation of the Science of Reading and Center activities
  • Participate in strategic planning, visioning, and program creation for how the Center can serve our local community and the national reading science community.
  • Co-lead the planning and coordination of a summer conference connected to the doctoral summer institute.
  • Demonstrated ability and commitment towards diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • May include teaching and advising in the Reading Science program.
  • Other duties as assigned
Contributes to team effort by welcoming new and different work requirements; exploring new opportunities to enhance the services of the division; helping others accomplish related job results as and where needed. Primary Contacts: School of Education faculty and staff Supervision Exercised: None


Education: Graduate degree and background in Reading Science. Doctorate (or working towards doctorate) preferred. Experience: Extensive experience preparing practitioners in evidence-based educational practices; experience working with diverse students, families, and schools; experience with program evaluation; a proven record of undergraduate and/or graduate teaching; experience administering complex projects and monitoring budgets and an ability to work effectively with professionals in an academic setting. Specialized Training: Proficient in use of Microsoft Office programs (can also include licenses, certificates, drivers license, etc)

Work Environment, Physical Demands:
  • Multiple service hours; computer data input; multiple concurrent tasks with service interruptions; extensive customer contact; strict confidentiality; detailed work.
