Classification Title:

Postdoctoral Associate

Job Description:

The Davis Lab in the Department of Neuroscience at the Scripps Research Institute ( https://scripps.ufl.edu/profile/davis-ronald ) is seeking to hire Postdoctoral Fellows to contribute to our goals of developing novel therapeutics for neurodegenerative diseases. The lab has a large effort that focuses on the impairments in mitochondria in neurons that occur in Alzheimer’s disease, ALS, and other neurodegenerative diseases. We employ multiple techniques in this pursuit, including cell-based assay development; high content screening of small molecules; cell culture of mouse neurons, human neurons derived from iPSCs, and other immortalized cell types; molecular biology and in vivo testing of drugs in both Drosophila and mouse models for neurodegenerative diseases.

Successful candidates will perform the vivo testing of drugs in animal models for diseases, perform molecular biological techniques to probe mitochondrial dynamics and function that include Western blotting, Seahorse assays, ATP generation assays, and mitochondrial isolation; and/or behavioral assays of animal models for the diseases such as locomotor activity, measurements of neuromuscular control and strength, and learning and memory. Successful candidates may also participate in screens for potential therapeutics that includes cell culture approaches using mouse neurons or human neurons derived from iPSCs, and high content screening. Details of established essential functions for this position will be addressed/discussed during the interview process.

Expected Salary:

Commensurate with experience.

Minimum Requirements:

Requires a Ph.D. or M.D. degree in a relevant scientific/medical discipline.

Preferred Qualifications:

A Ph.D. in biomedical science is required. Preference will be given to applicants with a strong background in animal husbandry and genetics (mouse and/or Drosophila) and behavioral testing. The successful applicant may also be involved in other activities including small molecule screening and biochemical and physiological assays.

Special Instructions to Applicants:

For consideration, applicants must upload a cover letter and resume.

This position is open until filled. Application review will begin April 11, 2022.
