Marian University invites applications for the position of Associate Dean of Nursing serves as the Chief Nurse Administrator of the Nursing Department. This position encompasses oversight of and accountability for academic affairs in the nursing department, including all undergraduate and graduate programs. The Associate Dean will provide impetus, direction, and support to program directors and faculty as they design and implement educational programs that meet the needs of Marian University and their communities of interest.

 

Primary Responsibilities:

Vision and Academic Oversight:

  • Articulates the nursing department’s vision and programming while serving as a principal advocate and spokesperson within the University community and to external constituencies.
  • Ensures overall integrity and quality in the delivery of academic programming with the Nursing Department
  • Oversees the evaluation of academic programs using benchmarking data, with support from the leaders in the Nursing Department
  • Ensures appropriate accreditation and approval standards are met and communicates with all relevant state boards and accreditation agencies.
  • Monitors national, regional and local trends in nursing, health care, and nursing education to assure competitiveness in nursing education programs offered in the Nursing Department
  • Collaborates with various Marian University departments and offices with regards to promotion, planning, implementation, and evaluation of Nursing Department initiatives.
  • Participates in planning strategic initiatives to achieve the mission and outcomes of the Nursing Department and Marian University.

Resources/Budget:

  • Evaluates the needs of the Nursing Department for the delivery of quality academic programming and secures appropriate resources to meet those needs in collaboration with the Dean of COP, Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs, and leaders in the Nursing Department.
  • Effectively guides the utilization of resources and directs the budgets that support the academic programming of the Nursing Department
  • Collaborates with Search and Screen Committees to recruit, hire and retain faculty and staff consistent with the strategic needs of the Nursing Department

Leadership:

  • Provides guidance and oversight to Nursing Department Program Directors in the coordination of teaching assignments.
  • Collaborates with the Nursing Department Program Directors in conducting annual performance reviews of faculty.
  • Conducts annual performance reviews of Nursing Department Program Directors and leaders.
  • Facilitates shared governance among Nursing Department Program leaders to assure ongoing improvement and maintenance of high-quality academic programs.
  • Engages in strategies to optimize high-quality solutions for student, faculty, and staff complaints in compliance with Marian University and Nursing Department policies and procedures.
  • Collaborates with the COP leadership team to achieve the COP vision and advance the strategic goals for the College and Marian University.
  • Collaborates with the COP leadership team in interdisciplinary activities.
  • Collaborates with Adult and Online Studies (AOS) with regard to promotion, planning, implementation, and evaluation of shared Nursing Department programming.
  • Provides guidance and oversight to the Nursing Department faculty and staff in providing effective student advising.

Liaison:

  • Communicates regularly with the Vice President for Academic Affairs regarding ongoing work of the Nursing Department and collaborative initiatives within COP.
  • Serves as the official liaison between the Nursing Department and offices of the University on issues related to Nursing Department programming and policy.
  • Represents the Nursing Department to the broader community, including regulatory and accreditation bodies on issues related to nursing education.
  • Represents the Nursing Department at state, regional, national, and international professional meetings and legislative activities related to nursing education.
  • Participate in faculty and committee work as requested.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications: 

  • Doctoral degree in Nursing or related field with a graduate degree in Nursing.
  • Unrestricted Registered Nurse license in the state of Wisconsin (or eligible).
  • Knowledge of learning principles for nursing education, including nursing curriculum, development, administration, and evaluation.
  • Current knowledge of nursing practice.
  • Progressive leadership experience in academic operations and undergraduate/graduate teaching.
  • Demonstrated experience to motivate faculty and lead teams.
  • Demonstrated experience in nursing academic administration including programming needs and fiscal resources.
  • Willingness to support the Mission and Core Values of Marian University.
