Duties Performed in the Usual Course of the Job
Serves the Sam Houston State University College of Osteopathic Medicine ( SHSU - COM ) in the Department of Primary Care and Clinical Medicine. The University is seeking qualified candidates to join SHSU - COM as full-time Internal Medicine Faculty. The position reports to the Chair of Primary Care. The College of Osteopathic Medicine is currently in pre-accreditation status from the Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation. The University is focused on improving the physician workforce in primary care and other specialties identified as a physician shortage in the State of Texas and has developed an integrated curriculum merging basic science instruction with clinical learning and an osteopathic emphasis. The Internal Medicine Faculty member will be expected to act as mentors, particularly for students wishing to practice General Internal Medicine.
The Internal Medicine faculty members will assist the Chair of Primary Care and Clinical Medicine in development of clinical content for systems courses, participate in scholarship and research in the department, provide quality patient care and foster collaboration and interdisciplinary learning. Members of the Department of Primary Care and Clinical Medicine will be expected to participate in teaching in the systems courses, physical exam course, case-based learning sessions, preparation for clerkships, procedural skills training, OSCE’s and Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine hands on training. The members of the department will also participate in the SHSU faculty practice in the SHSU Physicians clinic. Individuals should be comfortable working in preclinical and clinical education, as well as evaluation of curriculum and students through various learning and assessment methods. The ideal candidate should have strong clinical acumen and passion for primary care.
Please note this position is located in Conroe at the newly developed College of Osteopathic Medicine facility. Educational Requirements for the Position
The successful candidate will have a DO or MD degree from a college of osteopathic or allopathic medicine with residency training leading to board certified in Internal Medicine, current AOA or ABMS board certification or eligibility, and eligibility for, or a current unrestricted license to practice in Texas and training and experience in osteopathic manipulative medicine. The position will commence upon the candidate obtaining an unrestricted license to practice medicine in Texas. Experience Required for the Position
This position requires osteopathic manipulation skills and well-developed communication skills. A background in medical education is preferred, as is experience in pre-clinical and
clinical teaching. Academic rank and salary will be commensurate with experience and training. Other Requirements for the Position
Ability to communicate and work with faculty, medical students, clerkship coordinators, hospital administrators, physician preceptors and college administration. Excellent written and verbal communication. Demonstrates personal initiative and abilities to deal with a rapidly changing environment. Familiar with Learning Management Systems and reporting.
