Description

The School of Art in the Herberger Institute for Design and the Arts at Arizona State University seeks to hire a full-time (1.00 FTE) 9-month (academic year) Lecturer in the Art Education program with an emphasis on all-level K-12 art teacher preparation and field observation, beginning August 2022. This position will serve online and/or in-person undergraduate students.

The School of Art seeks a candidate with a rich and varied skill set in the field of Art Education. The successful candidate will hold or be qualified to hold a Arizona PreK-12 Certificate in Arts Education with at least two years teaching in public schools. Candidates must be familiar with contemporary and historical art education practices and procedures, Arizona State Visual Art Standards and certification requirements and processes, curriculum development and assessment procedures in a range of studio areas. The successful candidate has demonstrated ability to teach all levels of art education courses to art education undergraduates and other students in seminar and lecture courses online, hybrid, and in-person. The successful candidate will have experience working with a diverse student population and is able to communicate to students their progress, while recognizing their diversified backgrounds. The successful candidate has experience mentoring and advising students, and demonstrates an awareness of and sensitivity to the educational goals of a multicultural population as might have been gained in cross-cultural study, training, teaching and other comparable experience. The successful candidate will be able to utilize an online platform to organize their field work with Mary Lou Fulton Teacher’s College and their designated course work to facilitate grading. The successful candidate will be able to bridge required state certification requirements with Art Education BFA degree requirements. This position includes service responsibilities, which may include, but are not limited to curricular and academic affairs, communications, student recruitment and retention activities, as well as faculty/teaching assistant/student worker onboarding and mentoring. Required Qualifications:

  • Master of Arts degree in Art Education, Master of Fine Arts degree in a Studio Area, or related graduate degree
  • Demonstrated evidence of commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion
  • Demonstrated excellence in teaching with at least two years teaching in K-12 classrooms

Desired Qualifications:

  • Ability to teach all levels (upper-division and lower-division) of undergraduate courses
  • Ability to teach and develop online and hybrid courses
  • Strong communication and organization skills
  • Teaching or professional experience related to art therapy, social emotional learning, or health-related topics in the arts
