Position Summary:
The Department of Art + Design at Arkansas State University invites applications for a full time, non-tenure track, one year Instructor to begin August 2022. The ideal candidate has expertise in both contemporary and traditional ceramics and is interested in teaching undergraduate students of all levels. Ceramics is currently housed in the new Windgate Center for Three Dimensional Arts, a 10,000+ sq ft facility that contains a ceramics studio, wood shop, metal shop, foundry, and sculpture studio.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Teaching load of temporary non-tenure faculty is fifteen hours per semester. Faculty work load also includes research, creative activity, service, and professional development in the best interest of the students and community at large. All faculty members are expected to assume student academic advisement responsibilities in addition to their regular teaching loads.

Minimum Qualifications:
- MFA in Studio Art with an emphasis in ceramics
- Experience with management, safety, and maintenance of ceramics
lab facilities
- Expertise in ceramics including hand building, slip-casting,
throwing, glazing, advanced technology in ceramics and beyond
- Interest in expanded forms of art that might relate to ceramics
such as social practice, educational outreach, sustainability,
performance, art writing, new and time-based media or related
artistic discipline
- Knowledge of history, theory, and contemporary approaches to
ceramics
- Commitment to research, both their own and that of their
students
- Ability to connect with and teach students in an open and
interdisciplinary program
- Willingness to teach all levels of Ceramics and 3D courses and
other courses as needed
Preferred Qualifications:
- Two (2) semesters of teaching at the college level as instructor
of record or teaching assistant in ceramics, foundations,
etc.
- Willingness to implement and maintain an innovative and
contemporary curriculum
- Experience working with diverse student populations and
first-generation students
- Openness to collaborating with other faculty on projects,
research, and teaching
