The Applications Specialist provides an expert level technical skills and expertise in the area of managing and maintaining software and applications utilized by the University of Bridgeport. This position requires extensive technical knowledge and experience in installation, upgrading, and maintenance of various software packages supported by the Academic and Campus Technology Services department. Day to day activities include downloading, packaging, testing and installation of software. The position also works as part of a cross-functional team that deals with the full spectrum of technology and will fulfill the role of support for all software applications, providing training and direction to other technical staff that perform the bulk of the first and second level support tasks.

The incumbent will be responsible for and have extensive experience in:
  • Knowledge SCCM (System Center Configuration Manager)
  • Development of procedural documentation.
  • Ability to assist in the review of problems and proactively escalate issues for resolution while understanding the major impacts to technical and business-related areas. Provide recommendations and solutions that can be quickly implemented to correct the problem.
  • Strong analytical, written and verbal communication skills required to interpret client business needs, application development needs, and identify and document appropriate technical solutions and production processes and procedures
  • Able to evaluate new technologies to determine feasibility and desirability of incorporating into the systems environment.
  • Knowledge Base article creation and Documentation
  • Familiarity with VM environments
  • Knowledge of Adobe, Zoom, and Papercut administrative console
Skills Required:
  • Must be able to work on multiple projects concurrently and shift priorities as required to meet business requirements and deadlines.
  • Comfortable working closely with IT technical staff to ensure changes are implemented according to required business and IT technical specifications.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Good leadership skills to mentor and assist less experienced staff in network related issues, tools, and best practices.
  • Ability to work in a collaborative, team environment.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Additional Requirements:
  • JAMF Operations (Macintosh MDM) a plus
  • Ability to learn and become a resource for 3rd party software deployment and support
  • Some evening and weekend work may be required (as needed)
  • Other job duties as may be required
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
  • Minimum three years of progressive experience in large corporate systems environment with a wide variety of Information Management systems, networks and technologies (Higher Ed experience is a plus)
