Position Assistant Director of Athletics, Communications Full Time/Part Time Full Time Job Type Regular Position Summary
Directs, provides leadership, and oversees all aspects of Athletic Communications including but not limited to media relations, creative solutions, and collaboration with the University Public Relations. Handles multiple deadlines while working hours that include nights and weekends. Must have initiative and foresight on all new digital media avenues and best practices throughout social media and digital networks. Duties and Responsibilities
· Provide coordination of all publicity and communications for the Department of Athletics, including media relations and media training for student-athletes and coaches
· Develop and implement creative media/public relations strategies
· Produce editorial content for the media guides for all of the Department’s athletic teams, news releases and official website, and maintaining statistical records
· Nominating student-athletes and coaches for conference and national awards
· Traveling to designated away events as media liaison
· Overseeing and directing student assistants assigned to help with selected sports
· Assisting the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference with its digital communications efforts
· Develop and implement creative digital communications strategies including, but not limited to, web site, social media and digital publications.
· Responsible for all web site programming and initiatives including strategies, editorial content, design and updating of historical data
· Work in corporation with web site partner SIDEARM Sports
· Staying current on emerging digital communications trends, including but not limited to, mobile technology, metrics and social media
· Coordinating all aspects of media coverage for home sporting events
· Training and supervising student workers and game-day staff.
· Processing and distributing credential requests
· Performing other duties as assigned by the Athletics Director
· Performing special projects as assigned
· Attending events as needed to support Athletic Communications initiatives Minimum Job Requirements
· Education: Bachelor’s degree in any field.
· Experience: One (1) year of experience in marketing, public relations, communications or related professional area.

Preferred Qualifications
Demonstrated successful collegiate experience. Special Conditions for Eligibility
  • Pass NCAA yearly recruiting exam within first 2 months of employment;

· Must possess and maintain a valid NM driver’s license. Selection of an out of state candidate will require possession of a valid New Mexico Driver’s license within sixty (60) days of employment.
· Must be willing to work evenings, weekends and odd hours.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
· Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar.
· Knowledge of recruitment practices.
· Knowledge of social media analytics, social media publishing tools, web analytics, and tracking technologies.
· Knowledge of principles and methods for showing, promoting, and selling products or services. This includes marketing strategy and tactics, product demonstration, sales techniques, and sales control systems.
· Knowledge of media production, including social media platforms and efficiency of use, communication, and dissemination techniques and methods.
· Knowledge of Microsoft Office, presentation software, spreadsheet software, video creation and editing software, web page creation and editing software, and analytical or scientific software.
· Knowledge of administrative and clerical procedures and systems.
· Skill in producing live social media coverage.
· Skill in verbal and written communication.
· Skill in identifying complex problems and reviewing related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions.
· Skill in time management, organizing work assignments, and responding quickly and effectively to challenges.
· Ability to develop and execute marketing, and strategic communications plans to effect outcomes. Physical Demands
