The Director of the Silas Craft Collegians Program is responsible for the program's overall direction and management, encompassing academic programs and services, staff supervision, budget and finance, and student and constituent relations. The director collaborates with faculty, staff, and community leaders and organizations in support of the Craft program and its students, and works with the HCC Educational Foundation to cultivate resources for the program's growth and success. The director also chairs the program's Advisory Committee and provides collaboration and support to faculty who teach, tutor, and mentor Craft students. The director assumes responsibility for the collection and analysis of data to assess program quality and institutional impact. In addition, the director instructs Craft student development seminars each semester.
This position requires an experienced educational leader with the ability to work collaboratively and effectively with a wide range of students, faculty, staff, and community partners. The successful candidate must possess current knowledge of best practices and emerging trends in academic advising, student development, and retention and success initiatives for diverse populations, as well as the ability to translate this knowledge into strategic directions for the Craft program in collaboration with college leadership.
WORK PERFORMED
* Lead staff in the periodic review of program quality and
impact, and direct ongoing strategic planning efforts to enhance
existing activities and pilot new initiatives.
* Oversee the day-to-day management of all programs and services
and serve as the first line of institutional response to Craft
program students and other constituencies.
* Collaborate with the Office of Admissions and Advising on
recruitment efforts in the local community, and manage the
selection process for each incoming class of Craft
Collegians.
* Collaborate with the HCC Educational Foundation on external donor
relations and fundraising.
* Represent the Silas Craft Collegians program regularly before
internal and external constituencies, including governing boards,
school system officials, and community groups.
* Chair the Craft program Advisory Committee and ensure that it
maintains membership representative of all primary program
constituencies.
* Collaborate with program leaders in the Student Services
functional area to design, promote, and implement services and
activities and ensure their alignment with other campus
initiatives.
* Ensure the implementation of comprehensive procedures for
supporting and monitoring student progress in the program, and
oversee the modification of these processes as necessary.
* Oversee academic warning, probation, and dismissal
processes.
* Direct selection, award, and tracking processes for student
scholarships.
* Lead ongoing efforts to gather data and assess the impact and
success of all programs. Oversee responses to periodic data
requests from college leadership.
* Develop and regularly review policies and administrative
procedures for all programs in order to ensure optimal levels of
efficiency, transparency, and risk management. * Draft and
regularly update policy and procedure manuals, handbooks, and
associated forms.
* Develop and manage the program budget and assume ultimate
responsibility for the status of all Craft cost centers.
* Train, supervise, and support the professional development of the
Silas Craft Collegians Program staff.
* Master's degree in a related field required. Doctoral degree
will be an asset.
* At least three years of experience in higher education
instruction, advising, and/or student programming. Prior community
college experience preferred.
* Experience working with diverse student populations, and
demonstrated knowledge of best practices and emerging trends in
retention and success initiatives aimed at closing opportunity gaps
and pursuing institutional equity.
* Experience with program evaluation in the higher education and/or
non-profit sector.
Ability to communicate effectively and persuasively on behalf of
the Craft program before a range of internal and external
constituencies.
ADDITIOINAL REQUIREMENTS
* The successful candidate must possess high-level analytical,
communications, and organizational skills as well as the ability to
build and sustain positive partnerships with a wide range of
constituencies.
* Excellent organizational, planning, administrative, and
decision-making skills.
* Ability to exercise sound judgment under pressure and to solve
problems creatively and resourcefully with minimal
supervision.
* Operational knowledge of computer software including MS Office,
Adobe Creative Suite, and database software
* Ability to maintain strict confidentiality.
* Performs all duties while considering the impact of any actions
on the college's sustainability initiatives in the areas of
environmental stewardship, social responsibility, and economic
prosperity.
All employees must comply with college's COVID-19 vaccination or testing requirement, regardless of telework status. In instances where employees fail to comply, supervisors will be notified, as failure to comply is a violation of the employee code of conduct. Progressive disciplinary action will be taken, including verbal and written warnings, and up to and including suspension and termination.
Hours Per Week: 37.5
Work Schedule: Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Occasional
weekend and evening hours may be required in response to program
needs.
Compensation: $75,992 plus excellent medical & dental, tuition
reimbursement and paid leave
Grade: 18

As a participating member of the Maryland Retirement and Pension System, HCC offers two retirement options: The Pension, which requires a 7% employee contribution and The ORP, a 403(b) with a 7.25% employer contribution only. Employees in positions that do not require a bachelor's degree must participate in The Pension. Employees that possess a bachelor's degree and hold professional positions that require a bachelor's degree may choose to participate in either The Pension or The ORP.
