Position Description
The multimedia journalist produces, reports, shoots, writes, voices, edits and/or feeds news production content for all platforms in a manner that is clear, engaging, and meaningful to news consumers. The position promotes a favorable and consistent image of the department and the university for internal and external audiences, and champions the accomplishments of students, faculty, and/or staff.
The Sr. Multimedia Journalist (Research) promotes and advances the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center (TTUHSC) brand as a member of the Communications & Marketing team and direct liaison to the Office of Research and Innovation (R&I). This position works collaboratively with the TTUHSC Media Relations and Digital teams in conjunction with the Senior Vice President for Research and Innovation to cultivate and produce engaging content that reinforces the vision of the institution to transform health care through innovation and collaboration. This includes the management and creation of internal and external communications in a variety of mediums and formats to connect with key constituencies across the university enterprise, members of the media and the public.

Major/Essential Functions
Create and manage TTUHSC Office of R&I editorial calendar to promote and feature upcoming research publications, pending awards, feature stories and other newsworthy content that raises the profile of TTUHSC research efforts.
Collaborate with TTUHSC Office of R&I administrators to create a go-to list of expert researchers to secure and capitalize upon strategic media coverage opportunities.
Draft press releases and related communication materials promoting the TTUHSC Office of R&I.
Strategically identify media outlets and create media contact lists for earned media pitches.
Assist the External Relations teams in developing and executing strategies to gain statewide and national media coverage to raise the profile and influence of TTUHSC research experts.
Write, edit, and publish content for a variety of digital platforms, including the TTUHSC website, blogs, videos, email marketing campaigns, social media posts and more.
Publish content to research distribution sites such as EurekAlert!, NewsWise and other media wire services.
Manage updates to research web pages and serve as the primary distributor for internal research announcements and events.
Coordinate scheduling and pre-interview preparation for TTUHSC podcast research interviews.
Serve as a copy editor and copywriter for TTUHSC Media Relations team.
Collaborate with External Relations teams to share potential opportunities for earned media, digital content and social media.
Capture and assist in producing broadcast-quality video featuring TTUHSC researchers and other related story elements for media and TTUHSC owned media channels.
Coordinate print-ready portraits and action shots of researchers for media and TTUHSC owned media channels. Help maintain a relevant archive of media featuring TTUHSC researchers
Help maintain media reports of research-related media hits and digital distribution for reporting to research constituents and also for Strategic Plan and Weave.
Create quarterly research reports for media highlights and digital content distribution.
Work with reporters to provide broadcast environments including quality light, microphone and location if necessary for remote media interviews featuring TTUHSC researchers.
Demonstrated ability to effectively write and edit in Associated Press (AP) style.
Strong ability to interview experts about scientific research topics; break down information for
mainstream media and non-academic audiences; write research stories on topics approved by the Office of Research.
Intuitive ability to identify elements of a newsworthy story, particularly as it relates to institutional research and health care and the news media cycle.
Organizational skills—including time management, prioritization, the ability to create and keep deadlines, create and manage an editorial calendar, event coordination, manage digital resources, optimize content distribution.
Diverse writing skills with the ability to develop content for a variety of platforms.
Performs work in a manner that reflects the Values of TTUHSC.
Follows all safety rules, regulations and required training set by the TTUHSC Safety Services office.
