Sociology Instructor



FULL TIME, TENURE TRACK TEACHING POSITION – Fall 2022

Finger Lakes Community College is affiliated with The State University of New York (SUNY) and is currently recruiting for a Sociology Instructor.

Located in Canandaigua, NY in the Finger Lakes region of upstate NY, the college is in an area known for beautiful natural surroundings, including Canandaigua Lake, exquisite fall foliage, and local wineries and micro-breweries. 1. Qualifications:

A. Education: Master's Degree in Sociology required; Ph.D. preferred. Degrees in related fields may be considered where they include substantial graduate-level coursework in Sociology.

B. Experience: Minimum of one year of teaching sociology at the college level required; community college teaching preferred.

  1. Special Skills: Proven ability to design and teach courses in general sociology (Introduction and Social Problems), as well as in the candidate's area that contribute to the department's emphases on diversity, social justice, and sustainability. The department regularly offers courses in race and ethnicity, sex and gender, and the family, as well as a variety of special topics courses. The successful candidate will demonstrate capability to teach some or all of these as well.


2. Essential Functions:

A. Provide classroom instruction to students

B. Provide academic advisement through student meetings, evaluations and assessment of advisees' academic programs

C. Serve on college committees

D. Participate in curriculum development activities

E. Maintain office hours and be available to students as needed and as stated in the bargaining agreement

F. Participate in professional growth and development activities

G. Attend commencement and professional workshop days as defined by the college calendar

H. Perform appropriate other duties as requested by the Provost/Department Chair

Starting salary is $51,369.00
