POSITION SUMMARY
Provide a short concise summary of the position.
Supports the library’s mission to provide access to library and informati0on s0ources for users. Assists with collection development, cataloging, processing, and preservation of materials. Assists in Access Services as needed, particularly at the circulation desk and in instruction in use of the online catalog. Position requires ability to use the library’s automaton system for online cataloging and circulation services.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

25% Supervises all aspects of technical services including departmental staff training
25% Establishes overall workflow, policies, and procedures and coordinates acquisitions, cataloging, processing, binding and electronic resources
10% Identifies and selects materials to be added to the library collection according to the library’s established collection development policies
5% Catalogs all types of library materials
5% Oversees updates of software versions, system backups, and other information technology issues
5% Assists in providing information literacy training to students and faculty
5% Maintains ongoing analysis of community needs and modifies services, collections, and programs accordingly
10% Maintains and analyzes statistics and assists in other library projects and reports
5% Participates in library projects, including collection assessment, material weeding
3% Handles receipt, disposal and acknowledgement of gift materials for the library collection
ORGANIZATIONAL RESPONSIBILITY

SPECIFIC JOB KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills
- Reads and interprets bibliographic records
- Understands and applies principles of descriptive and subject cataloging rules
- Utilizes cataloging tools and the standards that govern each
- Applies relevant national and international bibliographic control standards (AACRII, MARC, Metadata, Dublin Core, etc.)
- Plans and implements new technologies in areas of resource management
- Maintains knowledge of current library trends and innovations, especially those relating to bibliographic control and resource management
- Applies library materials selection theory and tools
- Good knowledge of African American resources
- Firm knowledge of the library’s Sierra System
- Ability to work independently and with teams
QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Bachelor’s degree preferably in the humanities; some graduate work is desirable.
Experience: Minimum of 3- years of experience in technical services in college or university; some experience working with African American collections desired

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Physical strength and ability to move up to 30 pounds of materials at one time.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Normal office conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
